Guest Program and Luncheon: Ecotour and Balboa Island
Monday, June 20, 2011
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Led by a local naturalist, ASTA guests will explore Laguna Beach
and Dana Point’s tide pools and see the area’s marine and wildlife.
The intertidal zone, home to a variety of marine life, is the area
between the average high tide and average low water line. From
there, the tour moves to the Wildlife Viewing Cove, which is
the natural home of seals and sea lions, Brown Pelicans and
Cormorants and many times dolphins and whales. Participants
will learn about the history of Dana Point Harbor, dating to
the early 1800’s, and the natural history of Laguna Beach and
Orange County.
A cliff -side lunch at Las Brisas will feature Mexican seafood,
margaritas, a famous rose garden and a view sure to please.
After lunch participants will travel to Balboa Island, a quaint
island featuring a 1.5 mile boardwalk with specialty shops and
boutiques. This is also the original home of the frozen banana.
