Let us take you on a ride up River Road to one of the most picturesque homesteads located on the Mississippi River, Houmas House. Your tour guide will take you via deluxe motorcoach for an excursion into Louisiana's past, giving a narrative along the way of the history of Houmas House and River Road.
The "Crown Jewel of Louisiana's River Road" awaits your arrival. Houmas House once again shines and reflects its history as once the largest sugar plantation in America and its owners amongst the wealthiest in the South. Extensive renovations have recently returned the Mansion to the period reflecting the Great Sugar Empire of the 1800's. The Mansion, begun in 1805 and completed by Wade Hampton II in 1829, along with the original plantation house built in the 1770's rests among the great oaks, some dating back 500 years. You will enjoy a tour of the home and can stroll through the breathtaking gardens and enjoy the water lily ponds, fountains, sculptures, bridges and dual hexagonal Garconnieres.
Guests will be seated for lunch in the Pavilion at Houmas House. The design is reminiscent of the garconierre at Germania Plantation, located across the Mississippi River. Old brick walls from remnants of a cotton warehouse built by the Princess of Monaco in 1883, and accented with 250 year old windows and large spans of glass, allow guests picturesque views of the gardens and fountains. Executive Jeremy Langlois has created menus that have delighted and pleased the finest of guests, and that present you with an experience rivaling those of the great Sugar Barons of the 1800’s.
