Q & A

Are genetically enhanced plants safe?

More than 15 years of laboratory research and field trials with plants produced by modern biotechnology indicate that the risks posed by these plants are not any greater than or different from the risks posed by plants produced by traditional breeding methods, which have been practiced for more than 100 years. This conclusion is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, World Health Organization, and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations among many government and scientific bodies worldwide.
